Cruise Day 1 - Embarkation Day - Dover, United Kingdom

Sunday, July 20 - 11:27 p.m.

Yep, it's taken quite some time for us to get around to compiling our photos and documenting what we've been up to... But expect over the next few days to see a number of posts with updates.

Let's start with last Sunday, July 13 -- the day we boarded the Carnival Splendor in Dover.

Based on long-standing tradition, every cruise must start with a hot dog.  Don't ask why -- I don't know the answer.

Dover - First Meal

Although we'd boarded the ship around 11 a.m., we weren't allowed to go to our staterooms until 1:30 p.m., so we spent some time wandering around the ship.  We found a nice spot up on deck where Julie so kindly pointed out the location of our engagement the day before.

Once we got to our stateroom, we rested a bit -- having slept poorly at the B&B we'd stayed in the night before (lousy bed, noisy bar across the street) we were rather tired.  A nap and some unpacking were followed by the muster drill, where we took the requisite shiny-life-jacket picture.

Before heading to dinner, we went to the Welcome Aboard show in the Spectacular Spectacular lounge.  (I'm not saying it's spectacular -- that's just it's name.)  Our cruise director, John Heald, is quite entertaining -- we'll talk more about him later.

When we returned to our room after dinner, we were greeted by the first of our nightly towel animals.  This is a tradition on Carnival, where they make a different animal for you each night.  We're not going to try and guess what the animals are each night... however we are bestowing princess status upon each of our animals in honor of our royal engagement. :)
