At the end of the day...

Friday, July 11 - 10:26 p.m.

We're back in our room after a day spent exploring London -- visiting the London Eye, going to see Avenue Q and dinner at Bertorelli.

We were a wee bit tired this morning, so we didn't really want to get out of bed, but ultimately dragged ourselves up before 10am.  The forecast called for thunderstorms, but we only experienced a bit of drizzle.

After walking to the not-quite-nearest Underground (subway, for those who are unfamiliar) station (the concierge apparently thought we needed a bit of a walk), we took the tube (again, subway) to Waterloo and walked to the Eye.

Julie had been a bit apprehensive about going up so high, but did quite well once onboard.  We had an amazing view of the city, and since we had so little time in London, it  was a great way to get a quick overview of what the city has to offer.

After the Eye, we walked down the street and had lunch at The Slug and Lettuce.  Yes, that's right.  The Slug and Lettuce.  I couldn't make that name up if I wanted to.  The food was pretty good, though nothing to write home about.  (Wait, I suppose I'm sort of writing home about it now, aren't I?)  Julie's Chicken and Bacon sandwich turned out to be a Chicken and Ham sandwich -- Bacon just isn't Bacon here.

The Underground brought us back to Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, where we saw the statue of Peter Pan, the Princess Diana memorial walk, and had a lovely 1.5 mile stroll through the park (and my knees survived!).  We arrived back at the hotel with just enough time to freshen up before heading back out.

A trip to London isn't complete without going to the theatre, so we took the opportunity to see Avenue Q (think Muppets for adults).  It was very cute, and the seats were only somewhat as uncomfortable as I'd remembered London theatre seats to be.

Leaving the theatre, we walked down the street to Bertorelli, an Italian restaurant, and had a quick bite before coming back to the hotel for the night.

In the morning, we'll catch the train to Dover, check into our Bed & Breakfast, and wander over to Dover Castle to play prince and princess sightsee.

Once again, we bid you a fond goodnight. :)
